Dayton, Ohio – After splitting a pair of matches over the first two days, the Fordham men's tennis team closed out the weekend on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Saint Louis University at the University of Dayton's Five Seasons Family Sports Club.
The match opened with the Billikens winning the doubles point, taking two of the three matches.
Lutwin de Macar and
Alex Makatsaria got things started on a positive note for the Rams, shutting out John Paul McKenzie and Pavel Badaiants at third doubles, 6-0. However, Fordham dropped first and second doubles by identical 6-4 scores.
Finn Kemper picked up the first Fordham point with a straight set win over Kenji Yanaba at third singles and
Jeremy Chung followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the sixth position over McKenzie.
de Macar gave the Rams a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Badaiants at fourth singles and then Makatsaria and Fabian Mauritzson finished at just about the same time to give Fordham the 5-1 victory. Makatsaria took the first set from Ignacio Tintore at fifth singles, 6-0, but dropped the second, 6-4. He came back to take the third set, 6-0, for the win. At first singles, Mauritzson took care of Justin Nogalski, 7-5 and 6-1.
Fordham returns to action on Wednesday, March 27, as the Rams host Rider University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:00 p.m.
