Newark, N.J. – The Fordham women's tennis team was edged by the NJIT squad, 4-3, in a match played in the Naimoli Center on Friday night.
The match opened with the Rams dropping the doubles point as
Genevieve Quenville and
Nicole Li defeated Adara Omar and Shamika Dhar at third doubles, 6-4, for Fordham's lone doubles victory.
The Rams then took three of the six singles flights but come up short in the match.
Arina Taluyenko dropped the first set at first singles to Joleta Budiman, 6-3, before winning the next two, 7-5 and 6-1.
Maia Balce and
Genevieve Quenville were the other winners for the Rams, both in straight sets. Balce defeated Holly Matson and third singles, 6-3 and 7-5 while Quenville upended Dhar at the fourth spot, 7-5 and 6-3.
Nicole Li got off to a good start at fifth singles against Mayar Eltony, winning the first set, 6-2, but Eltony came back to take the second and the third, 6-3 and 6-4.
The Rams return to action next Friday, February 15, as they host Seton Hall University at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center in the Bronx at 12:00 p.m.
