Bronx, N.YU. – The Fordham women's tennis squad picked up its second win over the past three matches with a 5-2 victory over Seton Hall at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center on Friday.
The Rams opened the match by winning the doubles points as
Maia Balce and
Gianna Insogna defeated Seton Hall's Thandy Kangwa and Minja Gligic, 6-3, at second doubles and
Tatiana Grigoryan and
Arina Taluyenko clinched the doubles point for the Rams with a 6-4 win over Anicka Fajnorova and Regina Pitts at first doubles.
Fordham then won the match by taking four of the six singles matches. Insogna got it started with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mekeila Erspamer at sixth singles and then
Genevieve Quenville made it 3-0 for the Rams as she knocked off Michal Matson, 6-2 and 7-5, at the fourth position.
Grigoryan clinched the win for Fordham with a win at third singles, dropping the first set to Melody Taal, 6-2, before coming back to take the next two, 7-5 and 6-4.
Taluyenko picked up the other points for the Rams, defeating Fajnorova at first singles with two of the sets going to a tiebreaker. Taluyenko took the first set, 7-6 (6) before falling in the second, 6-2. She then came back to win the third set, 7-6, taking the tiebreaker 7-1.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, February 23, as they travel to West Point to face the Army West Point Cadets at 4:00 p.m.
