Harrison, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis squad picked up its first win of the spring season with a 7-0 victory over Quinnipiac University at Life Time Athletic on Saturday night.
The Rams opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Arina Taluyenko and
Tatiana Grigoryan teamed up to takes first doubles from Quinnipiac's Dominique Vasile and Proyfon Lohaphaisan, 6-3, before
Maia Balce and
Gianna Insogna fell at second doubles to Kamilla Nella and Layla Rodriguez, 6-4. But Fordham's
Nicole Li and
Genevieve Quenville pulled out a 6-4 win over Stephanie Yanosov and Alexandra Mircea at third doubles to win the point for the Rams.
Fordham then swept all six singles matches for the 7-0 win. Quenville got things started at fourth singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Payton Bradley and Grigoryan followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jennifer Lu at the second position to give Fordham a 3-0 lead.
A 6-3, 6-0 victory for Li at fifth singles over Rodriguez clinched the match for Fordham and Taluyenko made it 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Vasile at first singles.
Insogna and Balce closed out the night for the Rams with wins at sixth and third singles, respectively.
The Rams return to action on Friday, February 8, as they travel to Newark, N.J., to face NJIT at 5:00 p.m.
