Harrison, N.Y. – After suffering its first loss of the season on Saturday, the Fordham men's tennis squad rebounded with a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart at Life Time Fitness on Sunday night.
The Rams opened the match slowly, dropping the doubles point.
Allen Thornes and
Jofre Segarra got things started by falling to Chris Sause and Francisco Del Valle at third doubles, 6-2, before Fordham's
Max Green and
Finn Kemper defeated Seiji Hosokowa and Omar Abdo at the first position, 7-5. The doubles point came down to second doubles where Sacred Heart's Lucca Casalduc Pla and William Wibmer knocked off Fordham's Fabian Mauritzson and
Lutwin de Macar, 7-5, to give the point to the Pioneers.
Fordham rebounded from the slow start to win five of six singles matches for the win. Kemper got it started with a 6-0 and 6-0 win over Sause at fourth singles, before
Alex Makatsaria made it 2-1 for the Rams with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bryan Einstoss at the fifth spot.
A 6-3, 6-1 win for
Jeremy Chung over Abdo at sixth singles gave Fordham a 3-1 lead but Wibmer defeated Green at second singles, 6-4 and 6-4, to make it a 3-2 contest.
Mauritzson clinched the match for Fordham with a 6-2 and 7-5 win over Hosokowa at the first position and
Lutwin de Macar made it a 5-2 final with a 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 win at third singles over Casalduc Pla.
The Rams return to action on Friday, February 22, as they host Hofstra at Life Time Athletic beginning at 7:00 p.m.
