Bronx, N.Y. – Head coach
Stephanie Gaitley and the Fordham women's basketball program have announced their 2020 recruiting class, comprised of guard Riley DeRubbo and forward Maranda Nyborg.
"Since we have no seniors, the additions of
DeRubbo
Maranda and Riley will add depth to our bench," Gaitley said, "We're excited to welcome them to the Fordham family!"
DeRubbo, a 5'8 guard from Washington, Pa., earned four varsity letters at Trinity high school under Kathy McConnell-Miller. She has twice garnered First Team All-Section honors and was named to last year's All-District First Team as a junior. She has twice served as team captain for the Hillers and is a two-time Athlete of the Week. Away from Trinity, she plays for the WPA Bruins and is an honors student in the classroom.
"Riley is a tough scoring guard who has all the qualities of a winner. She plays for winning high school and AAU programs and her mom is also a college coach – she has the DNA of a winner!"
Nyborg
Nyborg, a 6'3 forward from Bethel, Conn., earned four letters at Bethel high school under Anderson Rawlins. Named a team captain prior to her junior season, she is a two-time All-Conference and All-Academic honoree each of the past two years and was named an All-State selection after her junior year. She plays her club ball with City Rocks and in the classroom is a member of the National Honors Society, while serving as the 'Wildcats Are Responsible' club president. She has also earned two letters in varsity lacrosse and one with tennis, as well.
"Maranda will be a great addition to our front court for a number reasons – she is a solid defender, has the ability to score in the block, and has a nice touch. On top of that, she is an incredible teammate and will fit in perfectly!"
DeRubbo and Nyborg will join the Rams for the 2020-21 campaign as members of the Class of 2024.
