Bronx, N.Y. – The NCAA stipulates that every Division I program can have one exhibition before each season open to the public. The Fordham women's basketball team will play New York Tech for the second consecutive year on Thursday, October 31, at 7 p.m. However, programs can turn their one scrimmage into a second exhibition if the funds raised for the contest go towards charity. Much like the team did in
two seasons ago to benefit Puerto Rico relief after Hurricane Irma, the Rams will turn their scrimmage with Rutgers into a second exhibition on Saturday, October 26, at 1 p.m. to benefit the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian. Tickets will be $5 each and all proceeds will go directly to the
Bahamas Red Cross.
"We want to thank Coach [C. Vivian] Stringer for agreeing to open up our scrimmage to benefit those that were deeply affected by the damage to the Bahamas," Head coach
Stephanie Gaitley said, "All funds raised will go directly to the Bahamas Red Cross. It will also give our fans a very early look at our 2019-20 team and the excitement they will bring this season."
Fordham will be playing in Nassau at the Bahamas Hoopfest on November 29-30 against Arkansas and Lehigh, respectively.
Coach Gaitley
announced on Twitter that if 250 tickets sell by Monday, October 21, she will partake in an interview while in an ice bath with graduate student Isis "Ice" Young. Fans should check out the team's twitter account (@FordhamWBB) for previous episodes of "Ice at the Ice Bath".
The 2018-19 Atlantic 10 champions, Fordham will begin this season by hosting perennial national power and last year's national runners-up, Notre Dame, in the Rose Hill Gym on Tuesday, November 5, at 7 p.m.
