New Haven, Conn. – The Fordham women's tennis squad opened its spring season on Friday night with a 7-0 loss at Yale.
The match opened with the Bulldogs taking the doubles point, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Arina Taluyenko and
Tatiana Grigoryan fell at first doubles to Jessie Gong and Samantha Martelli, 6-1, while
Nicole Li and
Genevieve Quenville dropped second doubles to Yale's Raissa Lou and Caroline Dunleavy, 6-1.
Alexis Zobeideh and
Gianna Insogna forced an extra game at third doubles before falling to Kathy Wang and Caroline Amos, 7-5.
In singles play, Yale took every flight in straight sets. Taluyenko fell at first singles to Martinelli, 7-5 and 6-3, while
Maia Balce lost to Dunleavy at the second position, 6-2 and 6-1, and Grigoryan was upended at third singles by Lou, 6-0 and 6-2. At fourth singles, Li fell to Gong, 6-2 and 6-0, while Quenville lost at the fifth spot to Lauren Gillinov, 7-6 and 6-3, and Insogna was upended by Wang at sixth singles, 6-0 and 6-3.
The Rams return to action on Sunday as they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on Harvard University at 10:00 AM.
