Philadelphia, Pa. – (January 19, 2019) – The Fordham swimming & diving teams returned to action on Saturday morning, as the Rams took on the La Salle Explorers at Kirk Pool in Philadelphia. Fordham earned a split in the meet with the women staying unbeaten with a 195-105 win, while the men fell to the Explorers by a 210.5-86.5 count.
The Fordham women captured first in 12 of the 16 events on Saturday, led by senior
Tara Brunner, who posted three event wins on the day. She won the 50 (23.94) and 100 (51.93) freestyle events, while placing first in the 100 butterfly in 57.01. She also joined
Naima Mackrel,
Milly Furneaux, and
Theresa Mullen on the winning 200 medley relay, which clocked in at 1:46.88.
Caitlin McNary was also a multiple event winner, taking first in the 200 (1:55.88) and 500 (5:07.71) freestyle event, while leading off the 400 freestyle relay to a win, as she,
Kysha Marie Altura,
Paulina Watson, and Mullen took first in 3:36.60.
Watson and Mackrel also added an individual win to their respective relays wins. Watson took first in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.93 with Mackrel placing first in the 100 backstroke in 59.64 seconds.
Other winners included
Bayley Frierson, who won the 1000 freestyle in a season-best time of 10:30.12,
Hannah McGee, who took the top spot in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.57, and
Jacqueline Dominger, who placed first in the 400 individual medley event in 4:36.55.
The top performers in the remaining four events were Furneaux and
Natalie Ortof. Furneaux was second in both the 100 (1:05.92) and 200 (2:27.13) breaststroke events, with Ortof placing third in the one-meter dive (200.18) and fourth on the three-meter board (210.45).
In the men's competition, junior
Christopher Sleutjes was the lone event winner against the Explorers, placing first in the 1000 freestyle in a season-best time of 9:53.25. He also took fourth in the 500 freestyle in 4:59.17.

Fordham also managed four second place and seven third place finishes. The Rams earned second in the 200 medley relay, as
Auston Ramsay,
Travis Monahan,
A.J. Frakes, and
Bryce Bollesen clocked in at 1:35.73. Ramsay was also second in the 100 backstroke in 53.39 seconds with Bollesen earning third in the 50 freestyle in 21.77 seconds.
Joseph Vizza and
Connor Wright each had an individual second place finish, as Vizza was second in the 100 freestyle (48.16) with Wright taking second in the 200 backstroke (1:56.83). Vizza also contributed to a bronze medal finish in the 400 freestyle relay with Bollesen,
Spencer Clarke, and Monahan in 3:15.94.
In diving, Fordham took third in both events.
Diego Perez was third in the one-meter dive with a season-best score of 219.23, while
Christopher Craig captured third with a total of 231.83 points.
The remaining third place finishes were
Greg Lombana in the 200 butterfly (1:59.27),
Nathaniel Guenther in the 200 IM (2:13.95), and
Casey Sawyer in the 100 butterfly (53.38).
The Fordham swimming & diving team will next be in action on Wednesday, January 23
rd, when the Rams travel to Iona for a 5:00 PM meet.
