West Point, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team continued their 2018 fall season at the West Point Invitational this weekend.
The highlight of the tournament for the Rams came in the A singles draw where
Arina Taluyenko defeated Fairfield's Amanda Nowak 8-2 in the round of 32, Sacred Heart's Brianne Lauria 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 16, Columbia's Catie Sullivan 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and second-seeded Sofya Treschcheva of Syracuse in a thrilling three-setter 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 in the semifinals before dropping a hard-fought three-set match to top-seeded Guzal Yusupova of Syracuse 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 in the finals.
In E singles play,
Whitney Weisberg defeated Sacred Heart's Maggie Glynn 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16 and Bryant's Caterina Rokke 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 in the quarterfinals before falling to top-seeded Abi Waldman of Army West Point 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.
In B singles,
Tatiana Grigoryan defeated eighth-seeded Luciana Rabines of Connecticut 8-7 (8) in the round of 32 and St. Bonaventure's Consuela van Grinsven 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16 before falling to top-seeded Dina Hegab of Syracuse 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Gianna Insogna defeated Quinnipiac's Proyfon Lohaphaisan 8-7 (7) in the round of 32 before falling to sixth-seeded Julieanne Bou of Connecticut 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16.
In C singles, fifth-seeded
Nicole Li defeated Binghamton's Tiffany Dun 8-3 in the round of 32 and Quinnipiac's Courtney Nash 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16 before falling to Army's Samantha DiMaio 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 in the quarterfinals.
In B doubles play, Insogna and
Maia Balce defeated Montana's Alex Walker/Claudia Reguant 6-3 in the round of 32 and Quinnipiac's Stephanie Yanosov/Amy Zammarieh 6-1 in the round of 16 before falling to Stony Brook's Ana Carrion-Rodriguez/Anastasia Koniaev 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Also in the B draw, Weisberg and Li defeated Marist's Chloe Lant/Sophia Chavarria 7-5 in the round of 32 before falling to Quinnipiac's Proyfon Lohaphaisan/Dominique Vasile 6-2 in the round of 16.
In the A doubles draw, Grigoryan and Taluyenko defeated Quinnipiac's Jennifer Lu/Payton Bradley 6-3 in the round of 32 before falling to Army's Kirby Einck/Gloria Son 6-3 in the round of 16.
The Rams return to action October 11-15 at the ITA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Yale in New Haven, Conn.
