Women’s Soccer Wins Sixth Straight Match to Tie School Record

Cronin’s Late Goal Moves Fordham to 4-0 in A-10 Play for First Time in Team History

Kingston, R.I. – (September 30, 2018) – With a chance at going 4-0 to start conference play and make some school history, the Fordham women's soccer team did not let the opportunity slip away at Rhode Island on Sunday.  Lane Cronin scored for the second consecutive game, while Kelly LaMorte made two saves in goal, as Fordham earned a 1-0 win over Rhode Island at the URI Soccer Complex.

With the win, Fordham improved to 7-5-0 overall, while moving to 4-0 in Atlantic 10 play for the first time in team history.  The win was also the Rams sixth straight win, tying the school mark set in 2014.

Fordham had the advantage in each of the major stat category against Rhode Island, and finally broke a scoreless draw in the 81st minute.  Juliana Mascelli got the ball near the corner flag and put a long cross to the left side of the box.  Lane Cronin headed the ball down and bounced over the goalkeeper and into the net for her second goal in as many games.

The Fordham defense did the rest, limiting Rhode Island to eight shots overall, but only two were on frame.  Both of those came in the final six minutes after Fordham went ahead.  Fordham goalkeeper Kelly LaMorte made both stops to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, October 4th, when the Rams host Massachusetts at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 7:00 PM.
