Bronx, N.Y. – (September 27, 2018) – For the second straight year, the Fordham swimming & diving team joined a number of other teams and organizations on Wednesday to raise funds via a Tread-A-Thon™.  Funds raised were split between the program and the International Water Safety Foundation, raising awareness of the drowning pandemic.

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 5 p.m., the Rams began to tread water, raising $2,264, which was about $500 more than a year ago.

Drowning is the leading cause of child (ages 1-17) mortality (death) in Cambodia. Over 2,000 Cambodian children die from drowning each year. Children who drown in Cambodia rarely present at hospitals (only 6.6%) and therefore are not often counted in that country's official death records.25917

SWIM (Safety When It Matters) Cambodia is the first significant water safety program in Cambodia, of it's kind. SWIM will teach children water safety education, survival swimming skills, safe rescue techniques, and CPR.

SWIM Cambodia believe that all children have the right to play, swim and live safely in and around water. Please support us towards this goal where we will be able to provide layers of protection to children to keep them water safe.

The fundraiser is a reflection of Fordham Athletics' partnership with Ridgewood Savings Bank and their #multiplygood campaign.
