Baseball Announces Recruiting Class for 2019

Rams Add 10 for Next Season

Bronx, N.Y. – (July 24, 2018) – The Fordham baseball team has 10 new additions to its program starting next season, it was announced by Head Coach Kevin Leighton. Joining the Rams for the 2019 season are infielder/outfielder Jason Coules (Bellmore, N.Y./Bellmore JFK), pitcher Garrett Crowley (Forest hills, N.Y./The Canterbury School (CT)), pitcher Michael Ghiorzi (West Palm Beach, Fla./Fairfield Ludlowe (CT)), catcher Richard Grund (Weston, Fla./Saint Thomas Aquinas), outfielder Jake Guercio (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), infielder Jack Harnisch (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), pitcher Gabriel Karslo (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), outfielder Terrence Murray (Massapequa, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), catcher Andy Semo (La Jolla, Calif./The Bishop's High School) and pitcher Cory Wall (Roaring Brook, Pa./North Pocono).
 
Coules, a 6-1 infielder/outfielder from Bellmore, N.Y., is a varsity baseball player for Bellmore JFK High School.  He earned Preseason Northeast Region Honorable Mention honors in 2018 from Perfect Game, after receiving Preseason Underclassmen All-America Honorable Mention in 2017.  He played summer ball for the Long Island Titans, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2016 and 2017 WWBA 16U & 17U National Championship.  Coules was rated as the fifth-best prospect on Long Island by Blue Chip Prospects.  He also played varsity football for Bellmore JFK.
 
Crowley, a 6-4 left-handed pitcher from Forest Hills, N.Y., played two seasons of varsity baseball at St. Francis Prep before playing for the Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut.  With Canterbury, he was the WNEPBL Co-Pitcher of the Year after posting a 3-1 record with two saves, a 1.08 ERA, and 75 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.  He plays summer ball with the Midville Dodgers.
 
Ghiorzi, a 6-1 right-handed pitcher originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, was a varsity baseball player for Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Connecticut.  He served as a team captain for the squad and was an All-FCIAC pitcher.  He was twice named the team's most inspirational player in 2016 and 2017, while also receiving the Coaches Award in 2017.  He plays summer ball for Baseball U in Connecticut.
 
Grund, a 6-4 catcher from Weston, Florida, was a three-year varsity baseball player at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale.  A team captain as a senior, he helped Saint Thomas Aquinas to the 2018 State and Regional Championships, while also contributing to three District Championships from 2016-18.  Individually, he earned All-County Honorable Mention.  Away from the field, Grund was Co-President of the senior class at Saint Thomas Aquinas and a member of the National Honor Society.
 
Guercio, a 5-9 outfielder from West Islip, N.Y., was a multi-sport athlete at West Islip High School, competing in baseball, football, and track.  A four-year baseball starter, he set the record for the longest consecutive game hit streak among Long Island High Schools at 32 games, and earned All-League, All-County, and All-Long Island honors.  He was selected as the by Section XI Coaches Association as the League III MVP and was a finalist for the Silver Slugger and Carl Yastrzemski Award as Long Island's top hitter.  Guercio ranked in the top 100 players on Long Island by Newsday and Blue Chip Prospects rated him as the seventh-best prospect on Long Island.  He plays summer ball for the Long Island Black Diamonds.  In the classroom, he was a member of the Honor Roll and Principal's List in each quarter at West Islip, received the Suffolk Zone Award, and was a 2018 finalist for the Newsday Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
Harnisch, a 6-0 infielder from Colts Neck, N.J., was a four-year varsity baseball player at Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey.  The son of former Fordham Ram and MLB pitcher Pete Harnisch, Jack was a Third Team All-State performer as selected by The Star Ledger and a Second Team All-Jersey Shore pick by the Ashbury Park Press in 2018.  He served as team captain as a senior, earning First Team All A-North Division honors, a Silver Slugger Award, and was a Perfect Game Northeast Region All-American Honorable Mention selection.  He finished high school ranked 19th in New Jersey by Perfect Game and was among the "Top 40 Seniors in the State" by NJ.com.  Harnisch plays summer ball for the EvoShield Canes North Atlantic, which finished runner-up at the 2017 Perfect Game WWBA Northeast Championship.  In the classroom, he is a four-time Scholar Athlete Award winner, a four-year member of the honor roll, and a School Ambassador for Christian Brothers Academy.
 
Karslo, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher from Easton, Pennsylvania, was a four-year varsity baseball player at Wilson Area High School.  A three-year captain, he finished his career as the all-time strikeout leader at Wilson Area with 257.  He was named the team MVP, First Team All-Colonial League at pitcher and first base, and was the recipient of the 2018 U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.  As a junior, Karslo helped his team to the District 11-4A Championship, while earning First Team All-Colonial League honors at second base and Honorable Mention at pitcher and First Team All-Area as an infielder.  In all, he earned All-Colonial League honors seven times and All-Area three times.  For summer ball, he plays for the Lehigh Valley Baseball Academy Prospects, where he has thrown four no-hitters and earned 2018 Rawlings/Perfect Game Atlantic Region Honorable Mention.  In the classroom, Karslo was a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll.
 
Murray, a 6-3 outfielder from Massapequa, N.Y., was a varsity baseball and basketball player at Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale.  He served as team captain of the baseball team as a senior and earned All-League Honors.  He plays summer ball for the Tri-State Arsenal NY, where he earned All-Tournament honors at the 2017 Perfect Game Tournament in Georgia.  In the classroom, Murray was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Honor Character Certificate.
 
Semo, a 6-0 catcher from La Jolla, California, was a varsity baseball and football player at The Bishop's High School in La Jolla.  A four-year varsity baseball starter, he served as team captain and received the Knight Award for leadership.  For summer ball, he plays for Dove Tail Baseball, while in the classroom, Semo is a member of the Honor Roll.
 
Wall, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher from Roaring Brook, Pennsylvania, was a varsity baseball player at North Pocono High School in Covington.  He was a two-time All-League performer (2017 & 2018), while being named Team MVP and All-Region in 2018.  In 2018, he ranked second on North Pocono's single season list for ERA at 0.85 and strikeouts with 80, and was third in doubles on the offensive side with 10.  He plays summer ball for the Northeast Pride & Northeast Heat, while in the classroom, Wall is a member of the National Honor Society.
