Rhode Island Scores Six Times over Final Three Innings for the Win

Bronx, N.Y. – (April 6, 2018) – URI's Brett McManus registered a bases clearing double in the top of the seventh inning, while Matt Murphy tossed six shutout innings, as the Rhode Island Rams topped the Fordham Rams, 6-2, in the Atlantic 10 series opener between the two teams on Friday afternoon at Houlihan Park.

With the loss, Fordham dropped to 16-9-1 overall, 2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while URI improved to 7-21 overall, 1-6 in the league.

The first six innings of the game was a pitcher's duel between URI's Matt Murphy and Fordham's Reiss Knehr, as both threw zero after zero up on the scoreboard.  Each pitcher found their way out of multiple jams, leaving the game up to the bullpen.

Rhode Island would get to the Fordham bullpen first, scoring three times off Fordham reliever Brian Weissert in the top of the seventh.  With the bases loaded and two outs, Brett McManus connected on a double down the left field line, scoring all three runners for a 3-0 lead.
URI increased its lead to 5-0 in the eighth on an RBI-single by Laurence Hill and a bases loaded walk to Alex Santos.
