Men’s Basketball Hosts VCU on Saturday

Rams to honor graduating seniors in pregame ceremony

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's basketball Rams close out their 2017-2018 Atlantic 10 regular season, the 115th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, by hosting the VCU Rams in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network with Matt Murphy (p-b-p) and Tom Scibelli (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuvsports.org with James Corrigan (p-b-p) and Vinny DeBellis (color) announcing.
 
Fordham enters the game with a 9-20 overall record, 4-13 in the Atlantic 10, after a 72-56 A-10 loss at George Washington on Wednesday night while VCU is 16-14 overall, 8-9 in the conference, after an 81-80 A-10 loss to George Mason in Richmond on Wednesday.
 
Saturday afternoon's contest will be the ninth meeting between Fordham and VCU on the hardwood with VCU leading the all-time series, 7-1. VCU took this year's first meeting, 76-63, in Richmond on December 30 behind 23 points and 14 rebounds from Justin Tillman and 14 points from De'Riante Jenkins while Will Tavares scored 20 points for Fordham.
 
Notes
 
• Prior to the game the Rams will honor the graduating seniors.
 
• Senior guard Will Tavares, who leads the Rams in scoring (13.6 ppg), has scored in double figures in 21 of his 26 games this year. He is currently 20th in the Atlantic 10 in scoring.
 
• Tavares does most of his damage in the second half of games where he is averaging 9.0 ppg (compared to 4.6 in the first half).
 
• Sophomore guard Cavit Havsa is averaging 8.5 ppg and 2.3 rpg over the past nine games, shooting .574 (31-54) from the field. He has also dished out 45 assists, including a career-high eight in the win over George Mason and the loss to Saint Joseph's, with just 20 turnovers, over that stretch.
 
• Junior guard Joseph Chartouny leads the NCAA this year in steals/game with 3.37.
 
• Chartouny has 91 steals this year, three shy of his school record of 94 set last year.
 
• Chartouny has 241 career steals, good for third place on the Fordham all-time list.
 
• Chartouny has 427 career helpers, sixth-best in school history.
 
• Chartouny is one of three Atlantic 10 players to rank in the top 25 in assists, steals and rebounds, joining Davidson's Jon Axel Gudmundsson and Saint Louis' Jordan Goodwin.
 
• Fordham also leads the league, and is sixth in the nation, in steals with 267 (9.2/game).
