Newark, N.J. - The Fordham women's tennis team picked up its third straight win to begin the spring season, defeating NJIT 4-3 at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreation Facility on Friday.
The Rams opened the match taking the sweeping the doubles point as
Carina Ma and
Estelle Wong defeated Maya Eltony and Advaita Saravanan 6-1 at first doubles,
Tatiana Grigoryan and
Alexis Zobeideh defeated Holly Matson and Natacha MInc 7-6 in second doubles and
Maia Balce and
Carolina Sa bested Rafaella Sampaio and Amanda Helminsky 7-6 at the third doubles position.
The doubles point would prove to be crucial as the Rams went on to split their singles matches with the Highlanders. Balce bested Sampaio 6-1, 6-3 at fourth singles, Ma cruised past Eltony 6-2, 6-2 at first singles before Wong clinched the match with a hard fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Saravanan at the second singles position.
The Rams return to action Friday February 16Â when they host St. John's at Life Time Athletic in Harrison, N.Y.
