Bronx, N.Y. – After hosting the Catholic High School Athletic Association championships for decades, Fordham University Rose Hill Gym will host another championship beginning in 2020, the Federation Basketball Tournament of Champions.
Â
"This is not only a great day for Fordham, it's a great day for New York City basketball," said Fordham head coach
Jeff Neubauer. "We are beyond excited to host the New York state basketball championships in the Basketball Capital of the World."
"We are excited about the Federation's decision to move the tournament to Fordham," said Fordham women's head coach
Stephanie Gaitley. "The Rose Hill Gym is a great venue for the best boy's and girl's high school teams in the state to showcase their talents as they play for state titles. We can't wait to welcome them in March of 2020."
Â
In a release issued by the New York State Federation of Secondary School Athletic Associations (NYSFSSAA) today, Fordham University will serve as host of the tournament from 2020-2022. The 2020 championship will be held from March 27-29. It is the first time the tournament will be held in New York City.

Fordham senior associate athletic director
John Barrett and assistant men's basketball coach
Michael DePaoli made a winning presentation to the tournament directors on December 9 at the Monroe Woodbury School District's Education Center. Fordham was chosen over the Greater Glens Falls Basketball Amateur Athletic Association and St. John's University.
Â
"After a good discussion following each presentation, the vote taken by the Executive Committee supports a new direction for the Federation Tournament," said Federation President Donal Buckley. "All three organizations presented solid bids and were ready to host a quality event for us. However, Fordham's historic gym and location in the city convinced the committee."
Â
"The decision to move the Federation Basketball Tournament of Champions to the Rose Hill Gym is a further endorsement of Fordham's rich basketball history," said Barrett. "We are thrilled to have been chosen to host the historic championship. With 70 percent of the teams participating in the tournament coming from a 30-mile radius of Fordham, it will provide for great crowds and a great game-day atmosphere."
Â
The tournament features boys and girls basketball champions from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (public schools), CHSAA (Catholic schools), AISAA (independent schools) and PSAL (New York City public schools) in Class AA, A and B in a final four style tournament to be named best in New York.
Â
Fordham will continue to host the CHSAA Championships with all three rounds contested in the Rose Hill Gym beginning this year.
