Newport News, Va. – (November 8, 2018) – With the 2018 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship set for this weekend, the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its men's soccer All-Conference Teams and major award winners on Thursday. Four Fordham Rams were among the honorees, led by senior forward
Janos Loebe (Kierspe, Germany) and junior defender
Joergen Oland (Drammen, Norway), who were named the Atlantic 10 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, as well as and First Team All-Atlantic 10.
Joining Loebe and Oland on the All-Conference First Team is senior goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu (Accra, Ghana), while freshman defender
Sindri Ingimarsson (Kopavogur, Iceland) was selected to the conference's All-Rookie Team.
This marks just the third time that teammates have won the Atlantic 10 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year award in the same season, joining Saint Louis in 2007 (Kyle Patterson & Callum Angus) and 2014 (Robert Kristo & Anthony Manning).
For Loebe, this is his second Offensive Player of the Year Award, having also won the award in 2016, becoming just the third Atlantic 10 player to win the Offensive Player of the Year/Player of the Year Award twice (Jeff Deren – Massachusetts – 2001 & 2002; Cesidio Colasante – La Salle – 1995 & 1997). In addition, he joins George Washington's Marcelo Valencia (1991-94), as only the second player to earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors all four years of his career.
A preseason All-Atlantic 10 pick and a two-time Offensive Player of the Week, Loebe led the Atlantic 10 with 11 assists during the regular season, while his 25 points tied for the league lead with George Washington's Oscar Haynes Brown and Saint Joseph's Leon Maric. His seven goals on the year were tied for ninth in the league, with his three game-winning goals, tying for sixth. Nationally, he ranks second in total assists as well as assists per game, while being 28
th in total points and 30
th in points per game.
The award caps a brilliant career for Loebe, as he will go down as one of the top offensive players in program history. He is second at Fordham in career assists (31), fourth in career points (83), tied for sixth in goals (26), fourth in games played (79) and third in games started (78).
Oland is the third Fordham player to win Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year honors, joining
Matthew Lewis in 2017 and Ryan Meara in 2011. It is also the first time that a school has had consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award winners with it not being the same person.
