Richmond, Va. – Richmond's Lexi Prillaman came up with a steal off a short goal kick and beat Fordham goalkeeper
Kelly LaMorte on a breakaway to give the Spiders a 1-0 win at Robins Stadium in double overtime.
The loss drops Fordham to 5-6-4, 2-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond moved to 2-10-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the league.
The first half saw Fordham have the best scoring chance in the 11
th minute, as
Juliana Mascelli lined a shot toward goal off the crossbar and out.
In the second half, the Rams put the pressure on early, creating another prime scoring chance in the 51
st minute, when
Clara Gastaldi fended off a Richmond defender and was alone with the goalie. However, Gastaldi could not sneak the ball by Katie Brennan, as she made the save to keep the game scoreless.
Brennan would make three more saves in the period, while Fordham's
Kelly LaMorte had three stops forcing the game into overtime.
Fordham had a couple of shots in the opening ten minutes over overtime, but none found the mark, moving the game into a second session of overtime.
In the 105
th minute, LaMorte took a short goal kick, trying to move the ball up to her defenders, but Richmond's Lexi Prillaman stole the ball away and beat LaMorte one-on-one for her second goal of the season and the game-winner.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, October 12
th, when the Rams host Davidson for a 7:00 PM game at Jack Coffey Field.
