Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham swimming & diving team was back in action on Saturday for the first time this semester in Philadelphia, as the Rams took on La Salle and the Richmond women's team. The Fordham women had a great day, earning wins in both match-ups, defeating Richmond, 153-146, and La Salle, 199-100, while the men were topped by the Explorers, 212-86.
In the women's competition, Fordham took the top spot in nine events, highlighted by three dual event winners. Junior
Erin McBride won both distance freestyle events, taking the 1000 freestyle in a season-best time of 10:34.03 and the 500 freestyle in 5:08.88, while freshman
Amelia Bullock captured first in the 100 (56.79) and 200 (2:04.51) butterfly events. Then in diving, junior
Wendy Espina-Esquivel was first in both events, posting scores of 262.40 on the one-meter board and 277.05 on the three-meter board.
Sophomore
Tara Brunner was the final individual event win, finishing first in a time of 53.15 in the 100 freestyle.
In relay action, Fordham won the 200 medley relay event, as
Morgan Fairclough,
Gabrielle Celia, Bullock, and
Theresa Mullen clocked in at 1:48.31 with the Rams also taking the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay as Brunner,
Kalena Laurent, McBride and Mullen finished in 3:32.87.
Joseph Vizza
On the men's side, Fordham won three events with freshman
Joseph Vizza taking the top spot in the 200 freestyle (1:42.87) and the 100 freestyle (47.53), while junior
Liam Semple won the 500 freestyle in 4:39.96.
The Fordham swimming & diving team will have a quick turnaround, as the next meet is on Wednesday, January 25
th at Iona, beginning at 5:00 PM.
