Davis Stats
Newport News, Va. – Fordham women's basketball standout
G'mrice Davis has been named this week's Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday afternoon. The junior forward averaged a double-double over three games in the past five days in which the Rams enjoyed a 2-1 record at their own Holiday Classic and a five-point road conference victory at Rhode Island on New Year's Day.
Â
"G has been a major factor in our success this season and I'm happy to see her efforts being rewarded." said head coach
Stephanie Gaitley.
Â
Davis has consistently been one of Division I's top forwards this season and has been a nightly double-double threat. Along with Massachusetts' Maggie Mulligan, she is one of the A-10's top rebounders. This past week, Davis was instrumental in the Rams' 2-1 record, recording three straight double-doubles, numbers six through eight on the season.
Â
On Thursday, the Rams fell late to Buffalo to begin the annual Holiday Classic in the Bronx. However, Fordham was in a position to overtake the Bulls because of Davis' 13 point, 15 rebound performance, to go with two blocks and four steals, both season-highs in 34 minutes. Davis hauled in five offensive boards and also handed out two assists. The Rams bounced back against UNC Asheville the following day and Davis chipped in with 10 points and 14 rebounds. On Sunday, the Rams began A-10 play in earnest and the Philly native worked around first half foul trouble to notch a team-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 11 rebounds; Davis had 13 points and seven rebounds in the second half alone.
Â
For the week, Davis averaged 14.0 points and 13.3 rebounds per game, plus 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks while shooting 47.2% from the floor, a mark that would have been greater had she not struggled with her shot against Buffalo's front court (4-of-16 shooting), across 29.7 minutes per contest.
Â
Following the weekend, Davis ranks second in all of Division I in total rebounds (196) and defensive rebounds per game (9.0), and first in the A-10 in both, while ranking third and second, respectively, with a 12.3 rebounds per game average. She is in a select group of players this season with eight double-doubles, ranking seventh in the country, and is also ranked inside the top-100 in field goals made (71
st – 86) and field goal percentage (93
rd – 49.1%). She has hauled in 14 or more rebounds in eight of 16 contests.
Â
Davis and the Rams return to action on Wednesday when Fordham welcomes Davidson to the Bronx for A-10 conference action beginning at 7 p.m.
