Fordham Student-Athletes Aid Freshmen on Opening Day

Rams Lend a Hand to New Students

For the 175th year, Fordham University welcomed its new students to campus for Opening Day. And once again, a number of Fordham University student-athletes spent part of their Sunday morning outside the various dorms on campus, helping the incoming freshmen unload their vehicles.  In what has become an annual event for the Rams, the student-athletes came to the aid of the New Student Orientation staff and the Office of Residential Life by lending a hand to make Opening Day run smoothly.

"The New Student Orientation team does an outstanding job at handling Opening Day every year," said Fordham head coach Andrew Breiner. "As someone who is responsible for organizing things for 90 football student-athletes, I have a great appreciation for the job the New Student Orientation team does each year. We are more than happy to lend a hand with the heavy lifting and to be able to demonstrate to the incoming students the Jesuit ideal of men and women for others."

Members of the football, women's soccer, cross country, rowing, water polo, baseball, volleyball and cheerleading squads assisted with Opening Day today with help from the men's and women's club rugby teams. The cheerleaders greeted the new students as they pulled onto campus and the other student-athletes hauled boxes and other heavy goods, including refrigerators, televisions and cases of water, up flights of stairs, gleaning admiration from parents and students who thought they would have to do the heavy lifting themselves.
