Bronx, N.Y. – The 2017 20
th World Maccabiah Games will have an even stronger Fordham imprint as women's basketball head coach
Stephanie Gaitley has been announced as a member of USA's Open Women's basketball team's selection committee. Gaitley, along with Team USA's head coach Sherry Levin and several others, will help construct a roster of 12 spots out of 30 athletes trying out to participate in next summer's games. Tryouts end on Sunday.
"I'm excited to join up with Sherry Levin again, we are long-time friends, and the opportunity to reconnect as well as to join forces with
Jenna Cosgrove in choosing the team that will represent the Open division in Israel next summer," Gaitley remarked, "This is another opportunity for me beyond the college game, having been involved with USA Basketball in the past. I look forward to working with Sherry and Jenna to select a team that will represent us well."
Besides coaching with the national team, Gaitley has also served as a consultant for both the Fiji men's and women's national teams, several years ago while serving as the head coach at LIU Brooklyn.
"This is just another opportunity to show that Fordham and international recruiting go hand in hand."
The 20
th World Maccabiah Games will run from July 4-18, 2017, in Israel next summer.
