Fordham Alum, John Rollins Named ECAC Interim Commissioner

1986 graduate was four-year starter with men’s soccer

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Board of Directors has named Fordham alum John Rollins, FCRH'86, as the Interim Commissioner of the ECAC effective immediately. Rollins will continue his current role as Chief Financial Officer while taking on further administrative responsibilities during this time of transition.

"The ECAC Board has the utmost confidence in John's ability to keep the organization moving in a positive direction," said ECAC Board Chair Jay Moran.

A four-year starter with the men's soccer team from 1982-1985, Rollins' name can still be found in the Fordham record books as his 77 career starts is tied for the school record while he is also fourth in career assists with 18.

Rollins arrived at the ECAC last August boasting 25 years of wide-ranging experience in financial and strategic planning, business affairs and operations at the highest levels of the industry. Hired as the Associate Vice President for Business and Administration, Rollins was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in April 2016.

Rollins oversees all of the conference's business and finance functions, including financial strategies, strategic planning and key internal operating initiatives. He will also work to streamline and modernize fiscal processes, and serve as the staff liaison to the Conference General Council and the Finance Committee of the ECAC Board of Directors.

Prior to joining the ECAC, Rollins served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Elite Sports and Athletic Events at the New York Athletic Club. While there, he directed all day-to-day aspects of the club's operation, and was responsible for managing the department's finances, including strategic planning, monthly financial reviews and budget management.

Before his most recent role with NYAC, Rollins spent time with MasterCard Worldwide, the University of Hartford Department of Athletics, and most notably, the National Football League and ESPN.

While with the NFL, Rollins held the title of Business Manager for both the League Office and League Management Council over a four-year period that saw the league increase its annual revenue by almost $2 billion. During his tenure, Rollins directly managed $450 million in revenue and expense budgets, and was tasked with maximizing revenue and profit from existing business initiatives while also identifying new growth opportunities.

Prior to his time with the NFL, Rollins served as the Business and Finance Manager for the University of Hartford Athletic Department. While with Hartford, he developed, administered and controlled the department's annual budget, and was also responsible for detailing all revenues and expenditure for the department's Business Office.

Preceding his first spell in collegiate athletics, Rollins spent nine years as a Senior Financial Analyst in the Program Finance department at ESPN Inc. He was heavily involved in both domestic and international finance initiatives during his time in Bristol, and oversaw the creation of both short- and long-term strategic reports for international programming and production efforts. Rollins was also active in driving corporate sponsorships and ad sales.

In addition to his role with the ECAC, Rollins currently holds the position of Adjunct Faculty at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., where he teaches Sports Business Strategic Management as part of the school's graduate program.

Rollins and his wife Susan reside in Somers, N.Y. with their son Kevin and daughter Kara.

The Board has authorized the hiring of a recruiting firm to conduct a national search for the next ECAC Commissioner. We are certain they understand the dynamic of the ECAC and what qualifications best fit with the organization. The search will commence mid July.
