Fordham Mourns the Loss of Basketball Hall of Famer Dan Lyons

One of three Rams to score 1,000 points, grab 1,000 rebounds

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University athletics family is saddened to learn of the passing of men's basketball Hall of Famer Dan Lyons on May 30th. Lyons was 84.

A Bronx native, Lyons starred at St. Simon Stock School, leading them to the New York City championship, before venturing down the road to Fordham in 1951 where he received a basketball scholarship.

At Fordham, Lyons became one of the Rams' all-time greats, joining with fellow Fordham Hall of Famer Ed Conlin, to become the first two Rams to score more than 1,000 career points and grab more than 1,000 career rebounds (Chris Gaston joined the club in 2013). Lyons finished his career with 1,077 points, currently 27th on the Fordham career list, and 1,049 rebounds, second all-time at Rose Hill.

Lyons was inducted into the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame in 1979.

Lyons is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary, a daughter, Cecelia, a son Lawrence and his wife, Sheri, and five grandchildren.
