SERIES HISTORY: This will be the ninth meeting between the two schools since the Billikens joined the Atlantic 10. Saint Louis has won six of the eight previous meetings, which includes a 1-0 victory at Jack Coffey Field last season on an own goal by Fordham.
LAST TIME OUT (10/23): In a rare occurrence, Fordham's
Jannik Loebe scored twice on a pair of penalty kicks, while
Matthew Lewis added the other goal, as the Rams pulled out a come-from-behind 3-2 overtime win over the Davidson Wildcats at Jack Coffey Field on Sunday.
The wild scoring affair started early, as the Wildcats scored first in the 15
th minute. Cort Coxhead passed a through ball to Jon Creel streaking toward the penalty spot. Creel then took a shot from 12 yards out into the net for his second goal of the season.
Jannik Loebe had a pair of goals against Davidson.
The Rams tied the score in the 26
th minute on a penalty kick, as a handball in the box was called against Davidson.
Jannik Loebe stepped to the penalty spot and calmly scored his third goal of the season.
The game did not stay tied for long, as Davidson regained the lead at 2-1 in the 37
th minute. On a long throw-in, Fordham defender
Joergen Oland headed the ball away from goal, but Christian Fechter one-timed the clearance attempt right back at goal, scoring his fourth marker of the season.
Fordham fought back to tie the game again right before halftime in the 44
th minute.
Christopher Bazzini collected the ball on the right side of the box, turned and crossed the ball to the left post. Fellow defender
Matthew Lewis was right there on the doorstep for the header and his third goal of the year.
After four goals in the first half, neither team could find the go-ahead goal, forcing the game into overtime. In the extra period, Davidson had thought they had won the game on a goal by Creel, but the play was called offside and the goal was disallowed. Just over a minute later, Fordham got the break it needed, as
Dantae Greer beat the Davidson defender to the box and was hauled down, awarding another penalty kick to the Rams. Loebe again stepped to the spot and converted, giving Fordham the 3-2 overtime win. It marked the second multi-goal game of Loebe's career.
In net,
Jordan Black made six saves for the Rams to earn his first career win, while Andrew Kenneson had eight stops for the Wildcats.
WHO'S NEXT: Following Saturday's game, the Fordham men's soccer team will close out the regular season with a pair of home game against Massachusetts on Wednesday at 3:30 PM and St. Bonaventure on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
