Fordham to Host New York Liberty Youth Basketball Clinic February 13

The Clinic is on National Girls and Women in Sports Day and Open to all before Rams take on La Salle at 2 p.m.

BRONX, N.Y. -- Fordham Athletics is proud to announce the third in a series of women's basketball clinics this season. This one, which is slated for Saturday, Feb. 13, will be conducted by the New York Liberty beginning at 12 p.m. Registration will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Tipoff between the Rams and La Salle is at 2 p.m. and all clinic participants will receive a ticket to the game. Those interested in participating in the clinic can register online at fordhamsports.com/liberty.

Fordham has found success engaging the youth basketball community this season, particularly with its first clinic on Dec. 29 that kicked off the annual Fordham Holiday Classic. The clinic saw more than 150 young athletes join the Rams in Lombardi Gym before the team defeated Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

"There are many exciting things happening in the Rose Hill gym; we have enjoyed our highest home attendance due to the outstanding efforts of our marketing department and our newly formed marketing committee," Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley said. "It has created an exciting atmosphere at our games and has certainly given us a much-needed boost at our home games."

Some members of the marketing committee are CYO Youth Basketball Commissioners, fans, youth coaches and families from the community. Dom Giudice, a youth coach for Somers girls' basketball, has been a huge part to the Women's Basketball Marketing Committee.

"Our involvement with the Rams has brought our youth program to a whole new level," Giudice said. "Coach Gaitley and her staff treated our kids with so much focus, enthusiasm and kindness that we for sure wanted to come back for more this year."

Fred O'Brian, the New Rochelle Youth Basketball Commissioner is another key piece to the committee.

"The fact that the Fordham Rams' team, managers and coaches have been willing to help me 'fan the flame' of interest in girls basketball with my players and parents is why I have gotten involved in the marketing committee." O'Brian said. "The openness, incredible sincerity and passion of everyone involved with Fordham Women's Basketball have made it easy to want to help the program in any way I can."

The New York Liberty clinic will feature a pre-game Q&A with Fordham Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley, current players and Liberty Director of Player Development Teresa Weatherspoon as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

A full clinic will follow in the Lombardi Center featuring New York Liberty representatives. Participants will receive a Liberty t-shirt, shoelaces and rally towel as well as two tickets to a future New York Liberty game.

Gaitley is excited about the day! "We look forward to partnering with the New York Liberty Feb. 13th. We will have former all-star Teresa Weatherspoon join us, as we promote our National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Come join the excitement at Rose Hill!"

The cost of the clinic is only $30 and includes admission to Fordham's game against La Salle. Additional game tickets for non-participants, parents and family members are just $2.
