2015-2016 Fordham Men's Basketball Schedule (.pdf) Atlantic 10 ReleaseBronx, NY (Sept. 3, 2015) – The full 2015-2016 Fordham University men's basketball schedule was released today. It features eight televised Atlantic 10 contests and a visit from the newest Atlantic 10 member, Davidson College.
Fordham will play 18 of its 29 contests in the friendly confines of the historic Rose Hill Gym in 2015-2016 and will make eight appearances on national television during the Atlantic 10 season, four on the American Sports Network (ASN), three on the NBC Sports Network and one on the CBS Sports Network.
"I'm really looking forward to my first year at Fordham and my first year as a head coach in the Atlantic 10, one of the top basketball conference in the country," said Fordham head coach
Jeff Neubauer. "I think the schedule sets up well for us. Playing nine home non-conference games will prepare us for the Atlantic 10 season. I'm hoping we can pack the Rose Hill Gym for those nine games so we can show our fans what we are capable of and that they come back and support us during the challenging conference season."
Head coach Jeff NeubauerThe 2015-2016 Fordham schedule includes eight schools that played in the postseason last year with five NCAA participants. Atlantic 10 opponents who advanced to the NCAA tournament last year include Dayton, Davidson and VCU while Manhattan and St. John's also appeared in last year's tournament. George Washington, Richmond and Rhode Island played in the 2015 postseason NIT tournament.
The Rams open the 2015-2016 season, Fordham's 113
th varsity season, with their only non-conference game outside of New York City, on Saturday night, November 14, as they travel to Arlington, Texas, to face the University of Texas at Arlington at 8:30 p.m. in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Fordham then returns to the Bronx for the first of nine straight games in the Rose Hill Gym on Tuesday night, November 17, as the Rams host Queens College, the eighth matchup between the Rams and the Knights, the first since 1965.
Fairleigh Dickinson then pays a visit to Rose Hill on Saturday, November 21, the first ever meeting between the Rams and the Knights, before Fordham hosts Colgate on Tuesday, November 24, as part of a Fordham basketball doubleheader with the Fordham women hosting prior to the men's game. It will be the 30
th all-time meeting between the Rams and the Raiders.
Fordham closes out the month of November with the annual Battle of Bronx as Manhattan College ventures across the borough to face the Rams in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, November 28. It will be the 107
th meeting between the Rams and the Jaspers, the most for any Fordham opponent.
On Tuesday, December 2, the St. John's University Red Storm comes to the Bronx for a game with the Rams in the Rose Hill Gym. It will be St. John's first visit to the Bronx since 2010 and the 86
th overall meeting between the two teams.
The December home slate continues with visits from Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, December 5, LIU Brooklyn on Tuesday, December 8, Coppin State on Sunday, December 13, and the University of Maine on Saturday, December 19. It will be the second meeting between Fordham and Central Connecticut, the 16th between the Rams and LIU, the first between Fordham and Coppin State and the second between the Rams and Maine.
The non-conference slate ends with a match up against Boston College at The Barclays Center on Tuesday, December 22, as part of the Atlantic 10/ACC Challenge. The other contest at Barclays that day will be Saint Joseph's versus Virginia Tech.
The Fordham Atlantic 10 schedule will consist of 18 games, nine home and nine away, with the Rams facing five opponents in a home-and-home series. Neubauer's squad will face La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond and Saint Joseph's twice during the 2015-2016 season
Fordham's conference slate opens with the Rams traveling to the nation's capital on Sunday, January 3, as the Rams take on George Washington University in a game that will be televised on the NBC Sports Network. Other January road contests include defending champions VCU (Jan. 13 on ASN), Saint Joseph's (Jan. 16), Rhode Island (Jan. 27 on ASN) and Massachusetts (Jan. 30 on NBCSN).
The first Atlantic 10 game in the historic Rose Hill Gym will be against La Salle on January 6, while other home games in January will be Richmond (Jan. 10 on NBCSN), George Mason (Jan. 20) and Dayton (Jan. 24 on CBSSN).
Mandell ThomasThe Rams open February by hosting a pair of conference games, facing Saint Joseph's on February 6 and St. Bonaventure on February 10. The Rams will also host Massachusetts (Feb. 17 on ASN) and Davidson (Feb. 27) in February.
Road games in the shortest month of the year include a trip to Richmond on February 13, to Saint Louis on February 20 (which will air on ASN) and to La Salle on February 24.
March will open with a trip to Pittsburgh for a game with Duquesne on the second day of the month before the Rams close out the regular season by hosting Rhode Island in the Rose Hill Gym on March 5.
All 14 Atlantic 10 teams will advance to Brooklyn for the A-10 Men's Championship, to be held from March 9-13 at Barclays Center.
CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network, NBCSN and ASN will combine to air every game of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., with the championship final airing on CBS for the seventh straight year as part of the network's Selection Sunday coverage. All 14 A-10 teams will participate in the championship, beginning with two first round games Wednesday, March 9, which will be broadcast by ASN. Second round and quarterfinal games will be played Thursday and Friday, March 10-11 and will air nationally on NBCSN. The semifinal games will be played on CBS Sports Network Saturday, March 12.
On the court, head coach Neubauer's Rams will be led by senior guard
Mandell Thomas, who became the 35
th player in school history to surpass the 1,000-point mark last year when he averaged 13.3 ppg and led the squad with 112 assists.
Also back are sophomore forward
Christian Sengfelder, who was named to the 2015 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team after averaging 11,7 ppg and 7.1 rpg, junior guard
Jon Severe (6.7 ppg) and senior forward
Ryan Rhoomes (6.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg) along with senior center
Ryan Canty, who returns after missing last season with an injury.
