Fordham catcher
Charles Galiano connected on a pair of home runs and tied a career-high with six RBI, as the Rams posted an 8-1 win over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at Houlihan Park on Saturday.
Â
With the win, Fordham improved to 20-25 on the season, 11-6 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure fell to 14-22-2 on the year, 2-15 in the league. The win was Fordham's fifth straight in conference play and sealed the Rams' fifth straight conference series win.
Â
After St. Bonaventure scored in the top of the first on a wild pitch, the Rams answered with a five-run bottom of the first inning. Fordham started the frame by loading the bases, as
Joseph Runco led off with a single to right, while
Ian Edmiston was hit by a pitch and
Matthew Kozuch walked.Â
Charles Galiano then hit his third career grand slam home run to left for a 4-1 lead.Â
Ryan Mahoney then went back-to-back as he hit his first career home run to right field.
Â
The Rams added to the lead in the second, when
Joseph DeVito doubled home Galiano, who singled and moved to second on a passed ball.
Â
Galiano then finished the Fordham scoring with a two-run home run to left in the fourth inning, his eighth of the year and second of the game for an 8-1 Fordham edge.
Ryan Mahoney hit his first career home run on Saturday.Â
The cushion was more than enough for Fordham starter
Brett Kennedy and a trio of Fordham relievers. Kennedy earned his fifth win of the season, as he allowed just one run on six hits with six strikeouts.Â
David Manasek pitched two hitless innings of relief, while
Joseph Serrapica and
Jimmy Murphy each struck out two batters in one inning of work.
Â
At the plate, Galiano was 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and tied a career-high with six RBI, while Kozuch was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.Â
Ryan McNally also had a hit and a pair of stolen bases.
Â
The same two teams will wrap up their Atlantic 10 series on Sunday with a noon game. The Rams will celebrate Senior Day prior to the game, as Fordham honors its two seniors,
Jordan Gajdos and
Ryan Carroll.
