First Round ResultsMIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- The Fordham men's golf team started competition Saturday at the New England Division I Golf Championships, as the two-round tournament is being held at the par-72 Newport National Golf Championships. The Rams fired a 17-over-par 305 and sit in second place, eight strokes behind Rhode Island.
Eight different players are competing for Fordham in the five-team tournament, with five playing towards the overall team score. Seniors
Ben Alcorn and
Drew Dufresne, who are playing in the group of five, and freshman
James Mongey, who is playing as an individual, all fired 2-over-par 74's to sit in a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard.
Also playing an individual is freshman
Matt Schiller, who shot a 5-over-par 77 to sit in a tie for 11th place. Sitting one stroke behind is freshman
Joe Trim, as his 6-over-par 78 is good enough for a 13th-place and the third best score towards the team's total. Sophomore
Oscar Cabanas shot a 7-over-par 79 to round out the team scoring for the Rams.
Sophomore
Hugh Lagrotteria shot an 81 playing as an individual, and senior
Jeff Hogan shot an 83, but his score did not count towards the overall team total, as only the top scores count.
Fordham concludes the tournament Sunday with the final 18 holes.
