Baseball Falls Short Against Wagner

Rams Back in Action Wednesday at Iona

Wagner starting pitcher Nick Pavia allowed just one hit over five innings, while Nick Dini was 4-for-5 with two RBI, as the Seahawks snapped the Fordham Rams' four-game win streak, 4-2, at Houlihan Park on Tuesday.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 8-13 overall.

Wagner opened the scoring in the third, getting RBI-singles from Nick Dini and Anthony Godino for a 2-0 lead.

Fordham got one of those runs back in the bottom of the frame.  Jason Lundy opened the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Joseph DeVito.  Joseph Runco then hit a ground ball to the pitcher, who threw wide of third base and out of play, allowing Lundy to score.

The Rams then knotted the game at two in the sixth.  Runco led off with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a bunt single from Ian Edmiston.  After a stolen base by Edmiston, Matthew Kozuch plated Runco with an RBI-ground out.

Then in the eighth, Wagner regained the lead 3-2.  With two outs and a runner on second, Dan Wasilick hit a low liner to centerfield, which Lundy got to but dropped, allowing Kyle Brey to score on the play.

The Seahawks added a run in the ninth to go up by two, which Wagner reliever Steven Bloodworth held up that lead to earn his second save of the season in the 4-2 win.  Anthony Battaglia earned the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings.

Fordham reliever Greg Weissert (1-2) took the loss, allowing the one unearned run in the eighth.  Ben Greenberg threw the first five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while David Manasek tossed two innings of hitless relief with five strikeouts.  Joseph Serrapica wrapped up the pitching effort in the ninth, allowing one run.

At the plate, the Rams managed just six hits in the game.  Mark Donadio was 1-for-4 with a stolen base, extending his reached base streak to 20 games, while Edmiston was also 1-for-4 with a stolen base.  Ryan Mahoney, Ryan McNally, Runco, and DeVito had the remaining hits for the Rams.

Fordham is right back in action on Wednesday, as the Rams play the Iona Gaels at City Park in New Rochelle.  Game time is set for 3:30 PM.
