ResultsThe Fordham swimming & diving team capped off the first half of their 2015-16 season on Wednesday night, as the Rams earn a sweep of Manhattan College at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center. The Fordham men earned a 154-105 victory, while the women knocked off the Jaspers, 159-89.
The Rams captured first place in all 15 events in both the men's and women's competitions with seven Rams earning multiple event wins.
On the women's side,
Megan Polaha won both backstroke events, taking the 50 backstroke in 28.24 seconds and the 100-yard event in 1:01.85, while
Marie Feneron took first in both the 100 butterfly (58.94) and the 100 individual medley (1:01.35).
Kalena Laurent was the third Ram with multiple wins, taking the top spot in the 50 freestyle (24.51) and 50 butterfly (26.44), with diver
Wendy Espina-Esquivel rounding out the multiple event winners by taking first in the 1M (253.42) and 3M (274.35) competitions.
Other event winners for the Fordham women were
Natalie Malicki in the 200 freestyle (1:58.44),
Siobhan Dale in the 50 breaststroke (32.00),
Erin Gray in the 100 freestyle (55.99),
Morgan Fairclough in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.29), and
Megan Gray in the 500 freestyle (5:14.98).
In the women's relay events, the 200 medley relay of Polaha,
Shannon Lulley, Dale, and
Yvonne Kang took first in 1:50.66, while the 200 freestyle relay of Fairclough, Kang, Dale, and
Chandler Lulley was first in 1:40.80.
Marie Feneron won two events on Wednesday. In the men's competition, swimmers
Liam Semple and
Steve Sholdra, as well as diver
Colin Esterine-Reid, each won two events on the night. Semple grabbed first in the 100 (48.96) and 200 freestyle (1:46.27) events, while Sholdra claimed the top spot in 100 butterfly (51.29) and the 100 individual medley (53.60). Esterine-Reid won both diving competitions, scoring 218.25 on the one-meter board and 223.50 on the three-meter board.
Seven other swimmers took top honors on Wednesday, led by
Miguel Mattox taking first in the 50 backstroke (24.73), and followed by
John Furlong's first place finish in the 50 breaststroke (28.03). Other winners included
Scott Brown in the 50 freestyle (22.32),
Isiah Magsino in the 100 backstroke (52.70),
Chris Viera in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.53),
Tommy Christensen in the 500 freestyle (4:54.57) and
Matt Luther in the 50 butterfly (24.04).
In men's relay action, the 200 medley relay of Mattox, Furlong,
Rhett Karopoulos, and Brown took first in 1:36.00, while the 200 freestyle relay featuring Furlong, Luther, Semple, and
Alex Tunaru took first in 1:28.65.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on January 22
nd, when they travel to Iona for a 4:00 PM meet.
