Water Polo at CWPA Northern Division Championship This Weekend

CWPA Northern Division Championship Homepage

The 2015 regular season ended for the Fordham Water Polo team (16-13, 5-7 CWPA) last weekend with a 2-2 split on the road against four CWPA Northern Division foes, one of whom, MIT, will be the Rams' opponent this Saturday morning in the first match of the Northern Division Championship, a seven-school

Fordham and MIT, the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively, will battle it out for the chance to face undefeated #1 seed and hosts Brown University later in the day. A win against Brown would propel the Rams to the Northern Division title match, a loss against the Bears would put the Rams in the third-place contest, and a loss against the Engineers in game one would throw Fordham into a three-team round-roubin to determine the fifth-through-seventh place finishes. The top three teams this weekend receive automatic bids towards the CWPA Championship in two weeks with four at-large bids being divided up between the Northern and the two Southern divisions.

2015 Season: 11-11 (5-7)
What You Need To Know: After losing to Fordham, 12-6, on Halloween morning, the Engineers rebounded with a huge victory over St. Francis Brooklyn, 14-13, before beating Iona, 11-5, all at home. The Rams and MIT have faced off twice this season with Fordham winning both by a combined 23-11 score. Against the Terriers, the Engineers jumped out to an 8-5 halftime lead before the visitors stormed back to knot things up at 13-13. Senior Kale Rogers netted from distance with two minutes remaining, and had all three of his team's fourth period goals, to get the big win.

The Rams are guaranteed to play three matches this weekend. The possibilities are stated above but a win against the Engineers would get Fordham into the top four with the chance of snatching an automatic bid. The third-place match and the final will be live streamed on Brown's website.
