Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham University head men's basketball coach
Jeff Neubauer announced today the signing of
Will Tavares (Providence, R.I./Bishop Hendricken/Monroe CC) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2016-2017 season.
"Will is a great addition to our program and we are thrilled that he chose to continue his collegiate career at Fordham," said Neubauer. "He can handle the ball and create offense for his teammates and his athleticism and ability to shoot from deep will have a great impact on our program."
Tavares is entering his second season at Monroe Community College where he is averaging 15.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 3.0 apg through the first five games. Last year, Tavares averaged 10.0 ppg and 4.1 rpg for the Mustangs, shooting 42.9% from behind the arc to earn JUCO Region XV Player of the Year and First Team All-District honors.
A graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, R.I., Tavares earned First Team All-League and All-Division accolades as a senior as well as being named the 2013 Player of the Year.
"I'm excited to continue my college career at Fordham next year," said Tavares. "A soon as I stepped on campus it felt like the right place for me. It felt like home. My relationship with the coaching staff is great. The coaches all treat me like family which is important to me and the combination of athletics and academics got my attention and that of my parents."
