CoSIDA ReleaseThe 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's and Women's Soccer Teams have been announced, and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Among those honored were Fordham women's soccer player
Jessica Widmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) and men's soccer player
Jannik Loebe (Kierspe, Germany).
Widmann is the first women's soccer player to be selected to the Academic All-District™ team since Katie McDermott in 2010, while Loebe is the first men's soccer player to be honored since John Wolyniec was selected to the 1998 Academic All-America® Team.
A first semester graduate student, studying Marketing Intelligence, Widmann has been the Rams' top scorer all season long, netting a team-high 11 goals to go with three assists for 25 points. She also leads the Rams with five game-winning goals this season. In the Atlantic 10, she is tied for second in overall points and is second in goals.
Prior to this year, Widmann earned her undergraduate degree in Communications & Media Studies with a 3.46 GPA and was a two-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the Leader of Distinction Award from the Fordham Leadership Academy.
Loebe, who currently holds a 3.38 GPA as a sophomore, earns the first major academic award of his career. He currently is tied for the team lead with four goals and two game-winning goals this season and ranks second in total points with 11. He was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week once this year, after being named to the 2014 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and Atlantic 10 All-Championship team selection last season.
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later in November.
