Behind a pair of goals by Madeline Linde, the Columbia Lions topped the Fordham Rams, 2-1, on Sunday at Jack Coffey Field.
It was the final non-conference game for the Rams, who end that part of the season at 6-4-0, while Columbia improved to 5-1-3.
After a couple of early saves by Fordham goalkeeper
Ally White, the Lions were able to sneak out the opening goal of the game in 33
rd minute. Columbia caught a lucky bounce off the head of a Fordham defender, which laid the ball right at the feet of Madeline Linde, who scored from 16 yards out to the upper right corner.
The Rams found the equalizer right at the start of the second half in the 47
th minute.
Jessica Widmann received a pass going from left to right from
Natalie Sims, popping a cross into the left side of the box.
Kate McDonnell was able to head the ball down, which
Ivana Lahcanski headed into the net for her third goal of the season.
Columbia came right back to re-take the lead in the 50
th minute. Alexa Yow got around a Fordham defender and laced a shot at goal that White was able to stop. However, the rebound came right to Linde, who knocked in her second goal of the game and second of the season.
Fordham had a couple of chances to re-tie the game on shots from
Ally Doyle,
Brianna Blunck, Widmann, and a final effort by McDonnell in the waning seconds, but none found the back of the net, giving the Lions the 2-1 win.
In net, White made three saves for the Rams, while Columbia split the game between Grace Redmon and Allison Spencer with each making two saves.
The Fordham women's soccer team will begin Atlantic 10 play next weekend, when the Rams host VCU at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field on Friday, October 3
