th minute, as the VCU Rams topped the Fordham Rams, 1-0, in the Atlantic 10 opener for both schools at Jack Coffey Field on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, Fordham fell to 6-5-0 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while VCU improved to 5-3-3 on the year, 1-0 in the league.
After each goalkeeper was test once in the opening 17 minutes, VCU scored the only goal of the game in the 19
th minute. Maren Johansen put a cross into Alex Gogolin, who blasted home a one-timer inside the left post from 17 yards out for her second goal of the season.
Fordham had a couple of scoring opportunities, two of which came off the foot of
Brianna Blunck from distance, but both sailed high over the crossbar. In the second half,
Sydney White had a chance from the left side, but the shot was handled by VCU goalkeeper Emma Kruse, as she recorded the shutout making two saves.
For Fordham,
Ally White made two saves, as she fell to 2-4-0 on the year.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 5
th, when the Rams host George Washington at 4:00 PM in the second half of a soccer doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field. Students in attendance will receive free food and refreshments during the doubleheader.
