Down 1-0 in the second half, the Fordham women's soccer squad needed a big play against the George Washington Colonials to get an equalizer. The Rams got just that as
Natalie Sims' shot found the back of the net, giving Fordham a 1-1 tie at Jack Coffey Field on Sunday.
The tie puts Fordham's record at 6-5-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington moved to 7-3-1 on the year, 0-1-1 in the league.
The first big scoring chance came from George Washington's MacKenzie Cowley in the 12
th minute, as she chased down a ball in the box for a shot, but
Ally White came out of the goal to cut down the angle and make the save.
White would make two more saves in the period, before the Colonials got one past her with two minutes left in the first half. Madison Davis took a shot from the left side that hit the crossbar. Sydney Morris headed down the ball right to Brittany Cooper, who knocked in her second goal of the season.
The Rams found the equalizer in the second half in the 71
st minute. After a foul,
Ally Doyle hit a long ball from midfield into the box.
Natalie Sims got a hold of it, took a touch to the right, and put in her second goal of the season into the lower right corner from eight yards out.
Both teams fought tooth and nail to the end of regulation and then into overtime, but neither found the go-ahead tally, as the game ended in a tie.
In goal, White made five saves for Fordham, while Miranda Horn posted four for the Colonials.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 11
th, when the Rams travel to La Salle for a 1:00 PM match in Philadelphia.
