The Fordham University men's basketball squad returned from their shortened summer vacation a bit early this year as the Rams squeezed in a foreign trip north of the border the week before classes commenced and took care of business, winning all four games on the week.
The Rams left Rose Hill on Sunday, August 24, and made their way up the Thruway to Montreal where they opened competition on Monday night, when Montreal native
Nemanja Zarkovic scored a game-high 16 points, connecting on 60 percent of his shots and leading the Rams to a 70-48 victory over Concordia College.
In addition to Zarkovic's 16,
Jon Severe added ten points, while
Eric Paschall and
Ryan Rhoomes each chipped in eight.
Rhoomes topped the Rams with 12 boards on the night, while
Christian Sengfelder grabbed ten rebounds in addition to recording seven points.
The following night, the Rams ventured down to Quebec City where they held off a late surge from Laval, coming out with an 80-72 victory.
Severe came up huge for Fordham down the stretch, scoring a game-high 24 points on 7-13 shooting, including a 3-5 effort from downtown. He was one of three Rams in double figures on the night, joining
Antwoine Anderson, who tallied 15, and Sengfelder, who added 14.
After a day off in which the Fordham players and staff took in the sights of Montreal, the Rams had their toughest challenge of the trip but they were up to the task, battling back from a formidable deficit to defeat McGill University, 76-71.
Zarkovic poured in a team-high 16 points, including a perfect 4-4 effort from beyond the arc, to lead the Rams, while
Severe (13),
Sengfelder (10) and
Rhoomes (10) also finished in double figures. In addition to his ten points, Sengfelder also recorded a double-double with a game-high 12 boards, eight of which came on the offensive glass.
Anderson scored all nine of his points in the second half to help spark the Fordham comeback in addition to dishing out four assists. Severe led the team in helpers with six.
In the final game of the trip the Rams faced Zarkovic's former club team, Brookwood Elite, who honored the freshman guard In a pregame ceremony. But it was another freshman who stole the show as Paschall scored a game-high 36 points to lead Fordham to a 91-68 victory.
