Photo Gallery With Sunday being Freshman Move-In Day at the Rose Hill Campus, the Fordham women's soccer team looked to give the newcomers and their families something to get excited about for this season. The Rams did just that, as
Nicol Natale and
Kate McDonnell each scored a goal for Fordham in a 2-0 win over the Maine Black Bears at Jack Coffey Field.
With the win, Fordham improved to 3-1-0 on the season, and extended its win streak to three matches, the team's longest since a four-match winning streak in late September of 2012. The loss moved Maine to 1-3-0.
After a pair of early saves by Fordham goalkeeper
Ally White, the Rams' offense gave her some first half support, notching the opening goal of the game in the 20
th minute.
Nicol Natale started the rush down the middle of the field, dishing the ball to
Ivana Lahcanski on the left side. Lahcanski then laid a cross right back into the middle of the field, where Natale's quick flick with her foot got the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net for her first goal of the season.
That goal would be the lone score of the half, as Fordham outshot Maine, 9-3, and did not allow a corner kick to the Black Bears.
The Rams increased their lead early in the second half, with Natale right in the middle of things again. In the 52
nd minute, Natale got loose on the right side, cutting toward the top of the box. She crossed the ball to
Kate McDonnell just inside the box for a shot inside the left post for her second tally of the year.
The Fordham defense did the rest as the team kept the clean sheet intact, allowing Maine to register only one shot in the second half. White finished the match with two saves to earn her first shutout of the season, and the fifth of her career.
The Rams will look to continue their winning ways in their next contest, which will be at LIU-Brooklyn on Friday, September 5
th at 6:00 PM.
