2014-2015 Fordham Men's Basketball Schedule (.pdf) Bronx, NY (August 27, 2014) – The full 2014-2015 Fordham University men's basketball schedule was released today and it features a non-conference contest at The World's Most Famous Arena, games against two Big 10 schools, and a visit to the newest Atlantic 10 member, Davidson College.
Fordham will play 16 of its 29 contests in the friendly confines of the historic Rose Hill Gym in 2014-2015 and will make four appearances on national television during the Atlantic 10 season, along with an appearance on the A-10 Network and a game carried by Campus Insiders. A full schedule of televised games will be released soon as Fordham will have a host of other games televised this winter.
"This will be a very competitive schedule for us," said Fordham head coach
Tom Pecora. "Playing seven nonconference games at home will be a huge benefit for a young team as we prepare for another challenging Atlantic 10 schedule. As seen last year when the league sent six teams to the NCAA tournament, the Atlantic 10 is one of the top basketball leagues in the country."
John SevereThe 2014-2015 Fordham schedule includes eleven schools that played in the postseason last year with seven NCAA participants. Atlantic 10 opponents who advanced to the NCAA tournament last year include Dayton, George Washington, Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis and VCU while Manhattan also appeared in last year's tournament. Davidson and St. John's played in the 2014 postseason NIT tournament while Penn State and Siena appeared in the 2014 CBI tournament, with Siena winning the championship.
The Rams open the 2014-2015 season, Fordham's 112
th varsity season, on Friday night, November 14, as they host the New York Institute of Technology in the Rose Hill Gym. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Fordham then takes to the road for back-to-back games against schools from the Big 10, starting with a trip to Happy Valley to face Penn State on Sunday, November 16. It will be the fourth meeting between the Rams and the Nittany Lions, the first since 1973.
The Rams then travel down to College Park to take on the newest member of the Big 10, the University of Maryland, on Thursday, November 20. The Rams and Terrapins will meet for the tenth time, the first since Fordham ventured down to Maryland in 2006.
Fordham returns home to begin a four-game homestand, beginning with a contest with UMass Lowell on Sunday, November 23. The Rams and the River Hawks, a member of the America East Conference, meet for the first time.
Maryland Eastern Shore pays a visit to the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, November 29, in the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Hawks are a member of the Mideastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
On Monday, December 1, the Siena College Saints come to the Bronx for a game with the Rams in the Rose Hill Gym. It will be the fourth straight year the Saints and Rams have squared off and the 23
rd time overall. Fordham leads the all-time series, 12-10.
Fordham closes out the homestand by hosting Monmouth University on Wednesday, December 10. The game will be the third straight for the Rams and Hawks and the sixth in the overall series which is led by Fordham, 3-2.
The Rams head into Manhattan on Saturday, December 13, as they square off with St. John's University in the annual Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden. It will be the fourth straight year that Fordham has appeared in the festival and it will be the Rams' 117
th appearance at Madison Square Garden.
The annual Battle of the Bronx will occur on Monday, December 22, but the game will feature an unusual twist, it won't be played in the Bronx. Fordham and Manhattan will square off in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of the BROOKLYN HOOPS™ Holiday Invitational. The invitational will also feature a game between Providence and Miami. It will be the 107
th meeting between the Rams and the Jaspers, the most for any Fordham opponent.
The Fordham Atlantic 10 schedule will consist of 18 games this year, nine home and nine away, with the Rams facing five opponents in a home-and-home series. Pecora's squad will face Dayton, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island and VCU twice during the 2014-2015 season.
Fordham's conference slate opens with the Rams hosting another A-10 Rams, VCU, on Sunday, January 4 in a game that will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. Other January home contests include Dayton (Jan. 10), George Washington (Jan. 22 on the CBS Sports Network) and Rhode Island (Jan. 28).
The first Atlantic 10 road game will be in Kingston, R.I., on January 7, as the Rams square off with the third A-10 Rams, the University of Rhode Island. Other road conference clashes in January include games at Saint Joseph's (Jan. 14) and La Salle (Jan. 17).
The Rams open February by traveling to Dayton on the first before Fordham hosts Massachusetts on the fourth. The Rams will also host Saint Louis (Feb. 7) in a game televised on the NBC Sports Network, Saint Joseph's (Feb. 15, also on the NBC Sports Network) and La Salle (Feb. 25) in the shortest month of the year as well as make trips to Richmond (Feb. 11), George Mason (Feb. 18), Davidson (Feb. 21) and Massachusetts (Feb. 28).
March will open with a visit from Duquesne on the fourth day of the month before the Rams close out the regular season with a trip to St. Bonaventure (Mar. 7).
All 14 Atlantic 10 teams will advance to Brooklyn for the A-10 Men's Championship, to be held from March 11-15 at Barclays Center.
On the court, Pecora's Rams will be led by sophomore guard
Jon Severe, the Metropolitan Basketball Writer's Rookie of the Year last year, who set the Fordham freshman scoring record with 536 points. He was second on the squad in 2013-14, averaging 17.3 ppg, fourth best in the Atlantic 10, and he led the Rams and was third in the conference with 79 three-pointers made.
Also back are junior guard
Mandell Thomas (11.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and senior guard
Bryan Smith (7.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg) who will be joined by a group of talented newcomers.
