Men's Basketball Arrives in Montreal

Fordham Begins Its Foreign Tour with a 7 PM Tilt vs. Concordia

The Rams have arrived in Montreal.

After months of planning and a full week of practice, Coach Tom Pecora and his squad landed on the banks of the Saint Lawrence Sunday evening just before 9 PM.

The Rams enjoyed a late dinner in the heart of downtown Montreal, as their hotel is located just steps from many Montreal landmarks, most notably the Bell Centre (the home of the Montreal Canadiens).

The team has a full schedule for Monday, leaving the hotel just before noon for a tour of St. Joseph's Oratory.  Following their first sight-seeing adventure and a pregame meal, the Rams will open their foreign tour with a 7 PM tilt against Concordia University.

After team breakfast on Monday, we sat down with freshman guard and Montreal product Nemanja Zarkovic.

Most college freshman don't get to come home for a couple of months at least, you get to come home before the season even starts.  How does it feel to be back?
NZ: It feels very good.  I had a chance last night to meet with my dad, my brother and a few friends, so obviously it's just cool to have friends come see my play and hang out with them a little bit here before we start the season.

Any recommendations for your teammates about places to go in your hometown?
NZ: John D'Angelis, our tour guide, he knows it all, so he'll probably bring us to some nice spots.

You have your first college game coming up later today.  What are your emotions going into that first game where you'll be wearing a Fordham uniform?
NZ: It feels very good.  I'm excited.  Just got to make sure I'm ready mentally before the game, being here at home there's a lot of distractions, but I'm pretty sure I'll do a good job of just concentrating, focusing on the game and trying to get it started with Fordham basketball here, make sure we're ready for the season.

You may be one of the younger guys on the team, but you've already emerged as one of the leaders of the group.  What do you think you can bring to the team as you go into these four games in five days?
Like you said, I think I can bring leadership.  I can help the guys move the ball, help them share the ball, get the guys comfortable on the court and just get the energy going, play some defense.  I'm used to talking a lot on the court, so, like I said, just getting the energy up and trying to help the team win.
