Women's Basketball Releases Non-Conference Schedule

Rams Will Face Six Postseason Teams Before League Play

Schedule

BRONX, N.Y.- In 2013-14 the Rams enjoyed their most successful non-conference season in program history, piecing together a 12-2 record before taking home their first Atlantic 10 title.

Before beginning their defense of that title in league play, the Rams will once again face a challenging non-conference slate, with six of their 13 games coming against teams that made a postseason appearance last year.  Five of Fordham opponents (including Princeton, with whom the Rams have a potential match up) qualified for last season's WNIT, while one squad, Syracuse, enjoyed a trip to the Big Dance.

"Scheduling is one of the top components to building a successful program," said Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley.  "Now that we have laid a winning foundation we feel it is important to continue to challenge our players with a competitive schedule. We will be tested by a number of postseason teams who will prepare us to defend our Atlantic 10 title."

The Rams will kick off the 2014-15 campaign at an unusual time, hosting local foe Iona in an 11:30 AM match up on Friday, November 14th.  The game with Iona, who has the reigning All-Met Player of the Year in Damika Martinez, will be the first of three events in the Rose Hill Gym that day (volleyball at 4:00 PM and men's basketball opening the year against NYIT later in the evening).  With 42 bouts against the Gaels under Fordham's belt, Iona is the third most-frequently played opponent in program history.  Despite the astounding historical frequency with which these two schools have played, it will be the first contest between the two since the 2010-2011 season.

Following their game with the Gaels, the Rams will head north for the marquee game of their non-conference slate, traveling to the Carrier Dome for a contest with the Syracuse Orange on Sunday, November 16th.  The Orange, who were a six-seed in last year's NCAA Tournament, have been to two consecutive Dances and have enjoyed five straight 20-win seasons.

Two days after taking on the Orange, the Rams will return home to face yet another postseason team from a year ago, playing host to Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, November 18th.  The Mountaineers advanced to the WNIT last season, falling to Atlantic 10 opponent Duquesne in the first round.

Last year, the Rams faced the Hofstra Pride in the third game of the regular season, playing inconsistent basketball and falling to 1-2 on the year.  Luckily for Ram Fans, Coach Gaitley's squad then rattled off a school-record consecutive 12 wins.  In 2014-15, the Rams will once again take on the Pride, this time within the friendly confines of the Rose Hill Gym.

After their contest with the Pride, the Rams will once again hit the road, taking on the University of Delaware on Tuesday, November 25th.  The Blue Hens have been incredibly successful over the last decade, registering five consecutive postseason appearances, including a pair of NCAA berths.  Not only the alma mater of WNBA superstar Elena Delle Donne, Delaware is also the place where Jeanie Radice, the second-leading scorer in Fordham Women's Basketball history, has served as an associate head coach for the past 18 seasons.

In 2013-14, the Rams claimed their first Thanksgiving tournament title by taking home first place at the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up.  This year, the Rams will look to make it two in a row when they travel to The Lone Star State for a tournament at UT-San Antonio.  In The River City, the Rams will take on Incarnate Word and Drake, the latter of whom advanced to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Game a season ago.

After returning to the Bronx, the Rams will enjoy a few days off before playing host to Seton Hall on Friday, December 5th.  Seton Hall enjoyed the greatest WNIT success of any Fordham non-conference opponent last year, advancing to the third round of the tournament before falling to in-state rival Rutgers.

Following the contest with Seton Hall, it's back on the road for the Fordham Rams, as they travel to The City of Brotherly Love to resume a rivalry with former A-10 foe Temple.  That game will take place on Sunday, December 7th, inside historic McGonigle Hall on North Broad Street.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Rams following their trip to Philly, as they then head to New Britain, Conn., for a Tuesday match up with CCSU on December 9th.

The Rams will then play one more game before Christmas, hosting Manhattan in the 46th edition of The Battle of the Bronx on Sunday, December 14th.  Last year, the Rams trounced the Jaspers in Draddy, 71-46.

Following a break for Christmas, the Rams will close out their non-conference slate with the Eighth Annual Fordham Holiday Classic, welcoming Savannah State, Princeton and Hartford to the Rose Hill Gym on December 29th and 30th.  The Rams will play Savannah State on the first day of competition.

Game times for all non-conference contests and dates for conference games will be released closer to the beginning of the season.
