Baseball Swept by Saint Louis

Rams Face VCU in Final Atlantic 10 Series Starting Thursday

Saint Louis' Matt Eckelman allowed just five hits over seven innings of work, while Mike Vigliarolo had three hits, as the Billikens completed a three-game sweep of the Fordham Rams, 6-1, at the Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
 
With the loss, Fordham drops to 21-27 on the season, 11-13 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Louis improved to 31-18 on the year, 17-6 in the league.
 
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Billikens exploded for five runs off Fordham starter Kirk Haynes, Jr.  Saint Louis picked up RBI-singles from Danny Brennan, Michael Bozarth, and Drew Crutis, as well as scoring runs on a bases loaded walk and a double play ball.
 
Fordham got one of those runs back in the fifth to trail, 5-1.  Matthew Kozuch reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  After a groundout, Luke Stampfl singled home Kozuch from third.
 
Saint Louis later added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, as Mike Vigliarolo hit a solo home run to left center, his seventh of the season.
 
The Rams were unable to mount a comeback in the final two innings against the Saint Louis bullpen, as Zach Girrens and Robert Plohr each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
 
For Fordham, Haynes (3-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over four innings of work.  Cody Johnson pitched three innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits, while J.C. Porter threw a scoreless inning of relief.
 
At the plate, Matthew Cianci and Rob McCunney were each 2-for-4 in the game.
 
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Thursday, May 15th, as the Rams host VCU at Houlihan Park, beginning at noon.
