Box Score Mother Nature just would not cooperate on Saturday night at Houlihan Park, as rain and lightning delays forced the suspension of the Fordham-UMass baseball game in the top of the seventh inning.
Currently, Fordham leads the game, 4-3, with one out in the top of the seventh, but UMass is threatening with runners at first and third.
Joseph Serrapica was on the mound for Fordham with UMass' John Jennings coming to the plate.
With the start time moved ahead to 5:30 PM, the Minutemen opened the scoring right away in the first, as Kyle Adie singled to center, was sacrificed to second, and scored on a single by Jennings.
Fordham responded right away with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Mark Donadio led off with a double to right and scored on a double down the left field line by
Joseph Runco. After a wild pitch,
Tim Swatek plated Runco with a sacrifice fly to center.
UMass regained the lead in the top of the second, scoring a pair of runs on a two-run single by Adie.
The Rams again had the response with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame. Fordham would load the bases with one out, and get an RBI-infield single by Donadio and a bases loaded walk by Runco to re-take the lead, 4-3.
The game would then see a 37-minte lightning delay in the bottom of the sixth, and a later rain delay in the top of the seventh, forcing the suspension of the game.
Fordham's
Brett Kennedy had another strong outing, as he allowed just one earned run and struck out a career-high nine batters over six innings of work.
Play of this game will resume at noon on Sunday, which will be followed by the series finale.
