Box Score

Despite a three-hit, three-RBI day from Tim Swatek, the Fordham baseball team had its four-game win streak snapped at Columbia on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 7-5 at Satow Stadium.

The loss puts Fordham's record at 17-22 on the year, while Columbia improved to 22-15.

Columbia opened the scoring in the first, as Will Savage singled to right field and scored on a double down the left field line by Aaron Silbar.

Fordham responded with four runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead.  Jason Lundy began the inning with a single, and then moved to third on a single by Luke Stampfl and an error on the centerfielder trying to field the ball.  Lundy then tied the game by scoring on a wild pitch.  After a pair of outs and a walk left runners at first and third, Tim Swatek lifted a three-run home run over the right field fence, his third of the season.

The Lions bounced back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within one, 4-3, highlighted by a solo home run by Gus Craig, his fourth of the year.

Fordham extended the lead back to two in the fourth, as with a runner on third and two away, Joseph Runco legged out an infield single, allowing Stampfl to score from third.

Columbia then tied the game at five in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Joey Falcone.

The Lions then grabbed the lead back in the seventh at 6-5.  Craig was hit by a pitch with one out, which was followed by a single to right by John Kinne.  Craig reached third on the single but the ball was bobbled out in right, allowing Craig to come around and score.

Columbia added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI-single by Mike Fischer to close out the scoring.

For Fordham, Swatek was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while Stampfl was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.  On the mound, Makay Redd (0-1) took the loss, allowing one unearned run in two innings of relief.  Greg Weissert made the start, giving up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts over three innings, while Joseph Serrapica was hit for two runs on four hits in two innings.  J. C. Porter threw the final inning, allowing one run on one hit.

The Rams will be back in action on Friday, April 25th, when Fordham opens a three-game Atlantic 10 series against UMass at Houlihan Park, beginning at 3:30 PM.
