MBWA All-Met ReleaseFollowing a terrific season that saw their team claim the first Atlantic 10 title in program history,
Erin Rooney and
Abigail Corning have been named All-Met by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, it was announced on Monday.
Rooney earned a spot on the All-Met First Team for the second consecutive year, while Corning found a place on the All-Met Third Team, the first All-Met honor of her career.
Damika Martinez of Iona won the Division I Player of the Year award, while Beth O'Boyle of Stony Brook took home Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year honors, a recognition that
Stephanie Gaitley received following last season.
Co-captains of the most successful Fordham squad in over three decades and members of the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, Rooney and Corning both excelled in their final year wearing maroon and white.
Rooney, a First-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, led the Rams with 17.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game, becoming the first player in Fordham history to tally at least 500 points, 200 rebounds and 150 assists in the same season. In just two seasons at Rose Hill, the Christchurch, New Zealand native tallied 1,062 points.
Corning, a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 pick and the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championship, ranked second on the squad with 12.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game, while leading the team and ranking near the top of the conference in assist to turnover ratio at 1.8.
The duo will be honored tomorrow night at the 81
st NIT/MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards dinner tomorrow night at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
Branden Frazier and Jon Severe of the Fordham men's program will also be recognized at the Haggerty Dinner on Thursday, as will longtime athletic director Frank McLaughlin.
