With the loss, Fordham falls to 13-19 overall, 4-7 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's improved to 18-9 on the year, 7-3 in the league.
After a scoreless first inning, Saint Joseph's all but put the game away with an 11-run second inning, collecting eight hits and taking advantage of three Fordham errors. The big hit of the inning was a bases loaded double by Ryan Pater that scored three runs.
The rest of the Hawks' runs came on a solo home run by Chris Hueth in the fourth, a two-run home run by Mike Muha in the seventh, and a three-run home run by Collin Forgey in the eighth.
Saint Joseph's starter Jordan Carter had the Rams' number, as he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning.
Ian Edmiston broke up the no-hit bid with an infield single, which was followed by a ground rule double by
Ryan Mahoney. Joe Calabrese then broke up the shutout with an RBI-ground out to score Edmiston from third.
Carter picked up his fifth win of the season, giving up one run on three hits with a career-high 15 strikeouts over eight innings.
Fordham starter
Brett Kennedy (2-6) took the loss, giving up 11 runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 1.2 innings of work, while
Jonathan Reich allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of relief.
Makay Redd finished the final four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits.
At the plate, Edmiston had two hits and a run scored, while
Luke Stampfl, Mahoney, and
Pat Gardner each had one hit.
The two teams will finish their series on Sunday at noon.
