Without some personnel due to illness, the Fordham swimming & diving team traveled to Amherst, Massachusetts on Saturday for its final conference meet of the season against UMass. The short-handed Rams were swept by the Minutemen by scores of 164-136 on the women's side and 176-103 on the men's.
The Fordham women posted five event wins on the day, led by freshman Natalie Malicki, who won the 1000-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 10:29.98, as well as the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:05.72.
Spencer Chappell captured the 200-yard backstroke event in 2:06.76 with Chandler Lulley taking home the 50-yard freestyle event in 24.80 seconds. Chappell also took second in the 100-yard backstroke event (58.99).
The Rams final win came in the 200 freestyle relay, where Megan Gray, Shannon Lulley, Kelly Carroll, and Chandler Lulley posted a time of 1:38.93.
On the men's side,
Shintaro Noguchi led the way by placing second in the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 1:53.26, while grabbing third in the 100-yard freestyle (46.67).
Besides Noguchi,
Andrew Hendrickson and Pat Militti also posted their season-best times in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle events, respectively. Hendrickson clocked in at 9:55.46 to finish fourth overall, while Militti was third in 1:45.12.
Militti was also a part of the Rams' 200 freestyle relay, joining
Thomas Shetler,
Joe Mercurio, and Noguchi to take second place in 1:25.01.
The Fordham swimming & diving team will wrap up its regular season on Wednesday, February 5
th, when the Rams host St. Francis (NY) at 6:00 PM.
