Canicatti’s OT Winner Puts Fordham Past Saint Joseph’s

Senior Midfielder Scores 17 Seconds into Overtime Session

17 seconds.  That was all the time Fordham senior midfielder Maria Lorena Canicatti needed into overtime, as her blast from 35 yards out turned out to be the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Saint Joseph's Hawks at Jack Coffey Field on Friday night.

With the win, Fordham improved to 7-8-1 on the year, 1-4-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's fell to 10-8-0 overall, 3-4-0 in the league.

During regulation, Saint Joseph's had four scoring chances on Fordham goalkeeper Ally White in the first half, including a point blank shot by Emily Gingrich.  White came up large with saves on all four attempts in the opening half to keep the game scoreless.

In the second half, Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Allison Ebling would be put on the spot, as the Fordham attack got three scoring chances on frame.  Ebling handled all three scoring opportunities, pushing the game into overtime.

Fordham got the opening kickoff for overtime, and the ball was picked up by Maria Lorena Canicatti, just into the offensive half of the field.  Canicatti took a few dribbles toward the left side, and cranked a blast across her body toward goal from 35 yards out.  The ball would dip just out of the reach of Ebling, as it hit the bottom half of the crossbar and went into the net for the game-winning goal.  It was Canicatti's second goal of the season, as well as her second game-winning marker of the year.

White finished with five saves to post her third shutout of the season for the Rams, while Ebling totaled four stops for the Hawks.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 26th, as the Rams host George Mason on Senior Day, beginning at 2:30 PM on Jack Coffey Field.  The game will be the second half of a soccer doubleheader, as the Fordham men take on Massachusetts at noon.
